Grafted In | DAY III

READ MATTHEW ONE

Which names do you recognize?

What do you know about them?

Which names do you NOT recognize?

Where we come from matters. Our history says something about our future – our lineage says something about who we are today.

The same is true of Christ, but perhaps not in ways we would expect. Christ’s family tree has some varied characters in it. Some are ordinary – those who would have otherwise been forgotten in the chronicles of history. Some are lowly – those neglected and forgotten in their days. Some are misfits – those whose character and choices no one would want to claim in their family line. And they all have one thing in common: God chose to include them in His family tree. He chose to work through them – and sometimes despite them – to bring the Savior of the world into the world. Jesus Christ came from a lineage of misfits so that He might welcome the outcasts into His family – forever.

PRAY AND REFLECT

Spend some time thanking God for making a way for His Son to come into the world. Ask Him to prepare your heart for His coming throughout this Advent season.
