A Simple Valentine’s Bunting
Recently, my girls and I took a trip to Hobby Lobby with a very specific plan: we were going to make Valentine’s bunting together.
I had it all envisioned in my head—little Valentine envelopes made of felt, tiny hearts stitched or glued on the front, strung together with twine. So we gathered up sheets of felt in every pink and red shade we could find and grabbed some twine, fully prepared for a crafty afternoon.
And then, on the way to check out, we spotted these little pre-made felt envelopes.
They were almost exactly what I had imagined—sweet, simple, and just a few dollars per dozen. So we pivoted. We put the felt sheets back, brought the envelopes home, and turned them into bunting instead. It was so much simpler and still just as much fun.

To make it, I cut a long piece of twine and fastened a closed safety pin to one end (using it like a needle). The envelopes aren’t glued completely shut, which made them perfect for little hands. The girls were able to thread the safety pin right through the fold of each envelope and slide them along the twine themselves.
Once they were strung, we hung the bunting on our corkboard, and it instantly made the room feel festive. I also left up some red bow garland from Christmas—turns out it’s just as cheerful for Valentine’s Day as it is in December.
I love projects like this: simple, inexpensive, and full of memories. Sometimes the best ideas are the ones that get easier halfway through.
If you’re looking for an easy Valentine’s craft that kids can actually help with, this one was a win for us.
PS — We love this Valentine’s book on the history of Saint Valentine!
