How to Stick With Your Bible Reading Plan When Motivation Fades
Most Christians genuinely want to be in God’s Word each day.
They start strong on January 1. A new plan. Fresh pages. Real resolve.
And then, somewhere around January 20, the rhythm begins to unravel.
This pattern is so common that it’s almost assumed—but it raises an important question: Why does Bible reading consistency feel so fragile, even when our desire is sincere?
In our experience, it isn’t a lack of love for Scripture. It isn’t laziness. And it certainly isn’t a lack of faith.
It’s usually a lack of structure, support, and sustainability.
Why Motivation Isn’t Enough
Motivation is a powerful starting point, but it was never meant to be the engine of lifelong faithfulness.
Scripture forms us through return—again and again, in ordinary moments, through small acts of obedience. When our Bible reading habits are built primarily on emotional momentum, they struggle to survive real life: illness, travel, exhaustion, discouragement, or distraction.
Faithfulness grows best when it’s supported by rhythms rather than resolve.
That’s something we’ve seen not only in our own lives, but in the lives of thousands of Christians who long to read the Bible consistently and deeply.
What Most People Are Actually Missing
When we surveyed members of our community about why Bible reading tends to fade, three themes surfaced again and again.
People weren’t lacking desire. They were lacking:
A sustainable daily reading schedule
Community
Accountability
Many had tried Bible-in-a-year plans. Others had jumped from devotional to devotional. Some had strong seasons of reading followed by long gaps of silence.
What they needed wasn’t another ambitious plan. They needed a rhythm they could return to—and people to return alongside.
Why We Created the Bible Reader’s Community
We’ve been there.
And that’s exactly why we created the Bible Reader’s Community.
This community exists for Christians who want to be shaped by Scripture over time—not rushed through it, not overwhelmed by it, and not left to figure it out alone.
Inside this community, you won’t just receive a reading plan. You’ll learn how to read Scripture in a way that is sustainable in every season of life, grounded in good theology, and fueled by curiosity rather than guilt.
And you’ll do it in community, with accountability from like-minded Christians around the world who are reading the same passages and asking the same questions.
What It Means to “Study Slow”
At the heart of the Bible Reader’s Community is what we call the study slow method.
This approach was developed over years by our founder, Amy Gannett, following her seminary training and years of teaching Scripture. It’s designed to help readers go deep without burning out.
Instead of assigning long daily readings, we focus on just a few verses at a time—enough to engage deeply, ask meaningful questions, and return the next day with fresh energy.
Studying slowly does not mean studying shallowly.
Each day’s reading includes intentional steps that help you keep the original audience, author, literary context, and cultural setting in view. You’re not pulled out of context—you’re actually anchored more firmly within it.
Many readers are surprised by how much more they understand the Bible when they slow down long enough to listen.
What You Can Expect Inside the Community
The Bible Reader’s Community includes:
Training on how to study slowly through Scripture using the “study slow method”
A tutorial on how to begin a new book of the Bible with a Bible Overview Study, along with a printable guide
Monthly printable reading plans that guide you through Scripture five days a week at a sustainable pace
A promise that each day’s reading is short enough to return to consistently and intentional enough to avoid reading out of context
Weekly community questions that invite reflection, discussion, and shared learning
You are never handed a plan and sent on your way. We walk with you, teach you how to read, and stay engaged together.
The Bible Study Schoolhouse Difference
There are many good Bible reading plans available, and free ones can be a wonderful place to begin. But what makes the Bible Reader’s Community different is not just what you read—it’s how and with whom you read.
We study slowly through Scripture. This is not a Bible-in-a-year plan. Many in this community have tried that approach before and found that, while well-intentioned, it didn’t offer a sustainable pace or space to savor God’s Word.
This community is full of Bible-loving readers who want to dive deep, focusing on a few verses each day as we move carefully, verse by verse, through Scripture.
We build in community from the start. Habit formation is strengthened through shared practice, and Bible reading is no exception. Each week, members engage with others working through the same passages, learning not only from the text but from one another.
We teach the method, not just assign the reading. During the first week, you’re invited to watch a training video that walks you through the study slow method step by step. You’ll learn good questions to ask of the text and how to make faithful, thoughtful application to everyday life.
And every teacher and leader in this community is Bible school or seminary trained. No one leads without formal theological training. Careful handling of Scripture matters to us deeply.
Faithfulness Grows Best Together
If you’ve ever felt discouraged by your inconsistency, you are not alone—and you are not failing.
Often, what we need is not more determination, but a wiser structure. Not more pressure, but better support.
Scripture was never meant to be a solo endeavor. It was given to the people of God, to be read, studied, and lived out together.
If you’re longing not just to start a Bible reading plan, but to stay with it, we would love to welcome you into the Bible Reader’s Community and read alongside you.
Consistency doesn’t grow from motivation alone.
It grows from rhythm, formation, and community.
