How to Throw a Favorite Things Party with Your Friends This Holiday Season

One of my favorite ways to gather with friends during the holiday season is to throw a Favorite Things Party. It’s simple, fun, and leaves everyone smiling (and a little more inspired about what to add to their own wish lists!).

Here’s how it works: everyone brings two versions of one of their favorite things. It can be anything — a kitchen gadget you use every day, your favorite lip balm, a cozy candle, a pair of socks you swear by, or even something totally extra that just makes life more fun. You’ll want to set a price point ahead of time — say $15 or $20 — so everyone’s items are in the same range. Then, each guest buys two of that item and wraps them separately.

At the party, everyone takes turns sharing what they brought and why it’s one of their favorite things. It’s always so fun to hear about what little products or habits have made their way into people’s everyday lives — and everyone leaves with two new favorite things to take home!

Make It a Game

You can keep things simple and just swap gifts, or you can make it a little more interactive. Here are two ways to play:

1. The Guessing Game
Wrap all the items in similar paper so no one knows who brought what. Then, display them on a table and have everyone guess which item belongs to which person. The conversations that follow are so fun — you’ll be surprised how well your friends know each other (or don’t!).

2. The Secret Santa Swap
This version adds a little bit of strategy. Everyone draws a number to determine the order of picking. The first person chooses a gift from the middle and opens it. The second person can either steal that gift or choose a new one from the table. The game continues around the circle, with each person either stealing or unwrapping something new until everyone has two items.

No matter which version you choose, the real magic is in the laughter, stories, and thoughtful conversations that unfold. It’s an easy, meaningful way to connect with friends without the pressure of hosting something elaborate.

My Favorite Things

If you need a little inspiration, I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite things that would be perfect to bring to a party like this — everything from kitchen staples to cozy favorites. You can check them all out here on my Amazon list.

So grab a few friends, pick a date, set a budget, and get ready to swap your favorite things. You might just walk away with a new favorite — and a full heart.
