Just as He Said | Day XXX
The following reading is part of a larger Easter reading plan. If you would like to download the full, free Easter reading plan, you can do so here.
John 14:18-19
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.”
Revelation 22:12-13
Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with Me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
Reflect
For the past thirty days we have considered many of the Old Testament prophecies that Jesus fulfilled during Passion Week. Day after day we have seen how He kept the promises of God, how He walked faithfully in the plans of God, and how everything happen just as He said it would.
Even so, how slow we are to trust in His promises. There are days when I believe He must not know what is best or that He must be slow to act on time. Even after days of seeing His promises kept – down to the smallest, seemingly insignificant details – I am quick to forget that His promises are my reality, even when they are not directly in front of me.
One such promise that we must hold in front of ourselves with all the faith and grace of the Spirit is this: Jesus is coming again. Just as He promised to come and die and rise again, He has promises to come again for us. Jesus has promised that one day the clouds will part, the sky will be split open, and He will come for us. He has promised that He will reign forever in His kingdom, that His kingdom will have no end, and that He will wipe every tear from our eyes.
Sister, hear me well: one day – one very real day – we will look Him in the face, standing in His presence, and we will say that it was all just as He said it would be. This promise will one day be our history, not just our hope. He is coming for us – really, truly coming for us. And in this great hope, let us rejoice this Easter day with all the gratitude and joy of the women at the tomb. Let us sing His praises with His people today knowing that one day He will call us home – just as He said.
Pray
Praise God that because Jesus fulfilled all these prophecies (and more!) we can have full confidence in His promise to come for us again. Earnestly pray that Christ would come soon.
I love that thought: one day His coming for us will be our history and not just our future hope. Once again, great stuff Amy. Thanks for all your effort and labor.
Thanks for the encouragement! 🙂
